Honestly I don’t know why more people don’t. There’s a pretty good market for diesel minivans, à la Delica, or diesel Hiluxes, or Kei trucks and stuff. But everyone imports the JDM ones, and then complain about the inconvieniences of having to buy parts, and RHD, etc. But you could just import the European diesel variant of a domestic car, and have the thing you wanted (diesel) with most non-engine parts available locally, and the steering wheel on the correct side of the car, the headlights aimed the right way... And if you weren’t particularly mechanically handy and lived somewhere without specialist shops, your local mechanic probably wouldn’t think twice about working on it, because it’ll be something he’s mostly familiar with, outside the engine bay, and generally the stuff that goes wrong isn’t in the engine bay anyhow, so long as you maintain your car regularly, which you probably would if you'd gone to the hassle of importing it .
